Week 4 Term 1

WE ARE SWIMMING MONDAY TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY

THURSDAY IS PURPLE CAKE DAY.....DRESS IN PURPLE!!!

In Week 4 we continued to think about Eating For Health by using the computer program Inspiration to sort food into Healthy and Non Healthy groups. Take a look at the picture Jaz made. You can check out your own child's work on the Kidzstuff blog.

On Thursday we had a special visit from some Asian officials who are studying English at NMIT. We sang some songs together and they showed us how to write their names in English and in their own script and how to say hello in their language....tricky!! This writing is from Laos.
They also taught us some children's songs from their countries. Can you guess which animals they are about?

On Friday we had our second buddy time with our friends from Room 5. As it was a very sunny day Tracy and Sally challenged us to write our names with water before the sun dried the first letters up.

We did lots of thinking about ccccc...cats this week to help us learn the 'c' sound. Watch out for our cat pictures which we will be putting the finishing touches to this week Meanwhile we hope you enjoy our cat poem.

Some how our Clickety Clack Cicada poem from Week 3 got left off the blog...so here it is at last!

Finally I will be out of the classroom on Wednesday for an update of my First Aid certificate and again on Thursday for an ICT conference. Lynley will be looking after the class and having plenty of Purple Cake Day fun.

Have a great week.

Tracy

Week 3 Term 1

We are very excited about our new Room 11 Kidz Stuff blog. This is available at http://room112012kidzstuff.blogspot.co.nz/ or can be navigated to via the kidzstuff link in the right hand side bar of this blog. It allows you to look at a growing collection of work from any of our Room 11 friends by simply clicking on their name. Here are some examples of what you will see if you take a look today.

Last week we were learning about the sound 'i' and 'p'. We had a ppppppink pppppig to help us cook some yummy pppppopcorn.
On Tuesday we had a very special Valentines Day. Will explained how his friends and family in America celebrate Valentines and shared gifts and treats with all the class.

Our maths looked at sorting different colours of hearts on a bar graph and ordering different sizes of hearts to make a concentric hreat pattern and message.
There was also some flowers for Tracy from a rather cool looking dude!!
Every week we have a focus number that we spend 5 minutes on each morning. Take a look at our number 2 display. We love it if our friends bring in something from home linked to the number. Maybe you can send in something when the secret number is revealed on Monday. What do yout hink it will be?????
As well as letter sounds we are learning to read and spell some of the 'Tricky Words'. Playdough is a big favourite for making the words. This one was done by Jasmin and Jaz.
We had a surprise visitor last Monday. He seemed very happy wondering around looking at all the activities to choose from and eventually settled for making Tricky Words from magnetic letters. We called him Blackie. I wonder if he will come back next week for some more spelling practice?

Week 2 Term 1

WE ARE SWIMMING MONDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY

Last week we started our maths program by learning to play some maths games, including dominoes, bingo and Murtle The Turtle. When we needed a break we went outside in the sun and experimented with toys in the water tray.

On Friday Will brought a new, four legged friend into Room 11. We named him Sticky The Stick Insect. He was very well camoflagued in his box and we had to look very carefully to see him. In the afternoon we let him free and decided that a high tree branch would be the safest place. Can you spot Sticky in the pictures below? Lily was wondering if Sticky would turn green on the green leaves. Great question Lily! Can anyone answer it for us?

We met some other new friends as well on Friday, but these were the 2 legged kind. They were our Buddy Class for this year, Room 5. We had a free play in the Junior Playground and started to make friends with our older buddies. We will see them again in 2 week's time.
Our poem for this week helped us to think about how to be good friends to each other. See if you can recognise any voices on the clip below.

Week 1 Term 1

Welcome to our for Room 11 2012 blog. This blog tells you what we have been learning during the previous week and what we will be doing the following week. There is also a reminders section at the end for events coming up over the rest of this term.

On Wednesday this week there was alot of excitement, and a little bit of nervousness, as we arrived at school for the start of a new year. We started with 12 friends and by the end of the week we were up to 13. Some more friends will be joining us over the next few weeks until we reach our capacity of 18 children. Can you recognise any of our friends sharing morning tea together in the sunshine?
We worked on hearing, recognising and writing the sound 's' this week. As part of this we painted some rather sssscary ssssspiders!!! Watch out for them crawling up our classroom wall later on in the week.
Here we are painting the web of the spiders.

Each week we have a focus poem linked to our sounds work, inquiry topic, or some other significant event. This week it was all about starting  a new year at school. \Have a listen to out first voice recording and thank you very much to Jasmin for supplying the lovely picture.
