Week 6 Term 3

This week was Maree's first full week with us. She has very quickly become a valuable member of our Room 11 family. Here she is sharing her mihi with the children and teaching them how to count in Maori.
Our report writing this week was about the kiwi bird and we were very lucky to be able to look at and touch a real kiwi lent to us by Dave from Room 2.
A kiwi is a bird but it can not fly. It only lives in New Zealand and we are lucky to have kiwi's

On Wednesday we had an impromptu Futsal lesson as a spare session was available and we jumped at the chance to be outside on a sunny day. As you can see from the clip below we all had heaps of fun and burned off loads of energy. We have another Futsal session this Tuesday.

After acquiring lots of knowledge about wheels and axles over the last few weeks we put all this into practise by starting to make our own junk trolleys....look at how they are developing.
Our big book this week was The Hare and The Tortoise. We had a go at making models of the animals in the story and photographing them.

Wishing you all a safe and happy week and I hope to see lots of you on our Suter trip this Tuesday.

Week 5 Term 3

Take a look at us hanging out our Peace Doves during week 4. I hope you got chance to see them before the rain came.

This week was a bit sad for us all as we have had to say goodbye to Isabella who is moving out of the area. This means we are now a small group of just 14 but some more children will be starting visits with us later this term.

I loved the ukulele performance that we were treated to on Thursday and was so impressed by the way the boys supported each other with this. Keep up the great work.

For printing this week we worked as a team to make a beautiful rainbow using handprints.......with surprisingly little mess. Thanks to Thomas's mum and uncle who helped us with this.

Our report writing focus this week was on tuataras. One of the sources of information we used for this came from our poem of the week based on the book Ten Tuatara.

In ICT we learned how to leave comments on our buddies blog. I will be ready for an influx of comments on our class blog when your children show you their new found skill. Here is Lily's comment to her Room 11 friends.
I hope everyone likes watching Harold the Giraffe, because I went in the truck and we saw him and he was singing. And there were stars in the truck. From Lily. Room 11

I will be out of the classroom Wednesday morning just until morning tea and Michelle will be taking the children again for this session.

Finally, next week we will be joined by Maree, who will be doing a 5 week teaching placement with us. She has already spent 2 mornings with us getting to know the children and our routines. Maree is a 2nd year teaching student and has too school age boys of her own. I know we are all going to have a fun five week's together and will benefit from her ideas and experiences

Week 4 Term 3

This week we have been blowing, printing and writing about bubbles.

At school I blew bubbles. I popped bubbles and the girls had a turn. Those bubbles were big. Some bubbles are different shapes. Some bubbles are small.

We had two sessions in the Life Education trailer with Victoria and Harold the giraffe who helped us to think about all the things that make us special and how to look after our friends. Here is a play dough picture of Harold and a giraffe friend.
Watch this slide show to see what happens inside the Life Education trailer.
On Friday we practised skipping with our buddies from Room 5.

Week 3 Term 3

We had our first trip of Term 3 on Tuesday. We went to the museum to learn about some very interesting musical instruments from all around the world. Thank you to all the parents who came along to help, especially with the obstacle ridden walk to and from the museum!

Watch this video of us playing the instruments in our world orchestra.

We  continued acquiring information for our Terrific Trolleys topic by looking carefully at some of our own toys that had wheels. We drew them using Tuxpaint, made them out of play dough and wrote a description of them.

On Thursday we had some special visitors who are studying English at NMIT. They were government officials from Laos, Timor Leste and Cambodia. As well as joining in with our reading rotation they taught us how to say hello in their languages.
Hello in Loa is sabaidee
Hello in Portuguese, one of the languages spoken in Timor Leste is bom dia
Hello in Khmer, the language spoken in Cambodia is sour sdey
