We are a Year 1 class at Nelson Central School, Nelson, New Zealand. Most of us are 5 years old,
except for Tracy our teacher who is a bit older. This blog lets you know what we have been up to
and what our next learning steps will be. We love to find out what people think about our class

Week 8 Term 2

This week we have been learning about the ways we handle disagreement with our friends. Have a look at the power point below to see what we have been learning and decide which animal you are in a conflict situation. We are all trying very hard to be owls.

In handwriting we have been learning some tricks to help us remember which way round 'b' and 'd' goes. Here is a favourite trick.

Our big book this week was about a Huggles. Huggles love to hug and we had lots of fun making play dough 'hugs' and photographing them ourselves.

In writing this week we focused on Taniwhas and after reading some Maori myths about these extraordinary animals we wrote some quite frightening descriptions.

My taniwha is awesome. He said, “Hi,” once. He is big. He is really scary. He likes me.

Our poem was also about Taniwhas. You can listen to it here whilst looking at out Tuxpaint taniwha pictures.

On Thursday we had a great time learning about more Maori myths and legends at a special workshop run; we could not do these trips without you.
I will not be in class this Wednesday and Thursday. Dean will be taking the class for 2 days of special activities linked to Antarctica and penguins.wish I could be there to be part of it all it sounds amazing. Take a look at this link to see what children have said about the Antarctica experience
