We are a Year 1 class at Nelson Central School, Nelson, New Zealand. Most of us are 5 years old,
except for Tracy our teacher who is a bit older. This blog lets you know what we have been up to
and what our next learning steps will be. We love to find out what people think about our class
so please get typing and leave us a comment.

Week 9 Term 2

As this week started off so wild, wet and windy we decided to take a look at how to play some of our wet weather games and put down some ideas to help us have a happy indoor playtime.

Tracy was out of the classroom on Wednesday and Thursday and Dean was teaching us all about penguins and Antarctica.

On Thursday we celebrated Matariki with a shared kai and a rotation of activities in Kowhai including acting out Maori Myths, printing Matariki stars and learning some traditional Maori stick games.
We retold the Matariki legend of Tane and the Star fish. Here is Oliver's version.
One day mother fish told the little fish, “You should not go out to the big open sea.” A giant caught them and Tane grabbed his net and threw it up into the sky.

Our poem this week also had a Matariki theme.

There will be no new library books issued until next term. Thank you for making us one of the most reliable classes this term for returning books to the school library. We are keeping Val very happy.

To mark the end of Term 2 and Max's final day with us we will be having a pyjama dress up day on Friday. I will be wearing plenty of thermals under mine!
